Target Audience
A target audience is a group, or segment of people that you aim to excite, or create interest within your project or scheme. Our scheme as stated is our music video. The song we have picked is the “Flashback” song by “Calvin Harris” our audience is then those who like ‘dance’ music. Typically for this genre it would be males as well as females, aged 16-25, mainly in a social demographic of D or below.
My work is then being directed at that group of people, so we need to think about how we create it, it can’t be too bright or cheesy as it may offend and put off our customers. The story as shown in the storyboards, is telling sections of the story back to front. For instance, we would start the video how we woke up in the morning, then re visit the limited memories of those who went out, we have 3 stories going on, it would end by showing the three starting the night together, and the whole point is that they get split up but they can’t remember why. The song shows you through their night and how many sins may have been committed.
Usually with deciding your audience you would create surveys and questionnaires, however as we are only re making a video, we know that there is an audience and a scene for this music, the way we can tell this is by the publicity the artist gets, if he isn’t popular he won’t be seen in papers or on television. If his music is not popular it would not be in the charts and we would not be aware of it to do this video.
The reason we chose this over the “forever” rap genre song is due to, I do not like the rap genre, however I know it is very popular, but doing something where you have a better understanding and have a better feeling for the scenes you could create, as well as the way you could portray the song through or video would be much better than stomping around back streets trying to rhyme.
Regarding rap, it’s a bit of a narrow view, but it the best I can do...
Were now going to move on to filming ideas, playing around with the camera, getting some filming sections completed, and editing to a high standard.

After a discussion regarding ideas for our shoot, we decided the choices me made could be restricting of putting down a good video. due to that we decided to change to the 5 songs you can see underneath. we thought that this selection were contemporary to the audience we ourselves are, and the ones we want to see our work.
  • Calvin Harris - Flashback
  • Caeser's Palace - Jerk It Out
  • Right Side of the Tree - Drunk As Shit (Forever Remix)
  • Coldplay - The Scientist
  • Jimmy Eat World - Here It Goes
After listening and watching the video's of these 5, we decided the two to carry on with were "Right Side of the Tree - Drunk As Shit (Forever Remix)" and "Calvin Harris - Flashback". we feel that with the stories they both tell, we could bring our own pesonality into the work as the lyrics and the story leave it open to imagination of the audience. we are going to make gather ideas for both songs and create storyboards, compare and analyse and then put one to work to use as our main piece.

Here are the original music videos of the two songs:
